On June 22nd, 2017, the Administration Building at 510 Main Street was officially renamed to the Susan A. Thompson Building. The City of Winnipeg Council had unanimously voted to renaming the building on November 16th, 2016.
This is an honour of a life time and beyond.
During the ceremony at City Hall, I expressed that this re-naming was to be done in the spirit of honouring ALL the women of Winnipeg and also to specifically honour and recognize the women leaders within the city government, politically and administratively who came before me; whom I served with; and for the women who will come after me.
I also expressed that it was my hope, from this day forward, that more significant buildings will be named after the women leaders of Winnipeg.
I am especially grateful for the vision and work that Councillor and Speaker Devi Sharma did, along with Mayor Brian Bowman and the rest of the City of Winnipeg Council for their commitment to the importance and recognition of the leadership of women.
